Specrtral Evidence by Eileen Charbonneau and Jude Pitman.

Five out of Five stars review for Spectral Evidence by Eileen Charbonneau and Jude Pitman.   Until I read Spectral Evidence by talented novelists Eileen Charbonneau and Jude Pitman, I did not know what the title meant. A definition of it   is “evidence based on the dreams and visions of the accuser.” During the Salem Witch Trials that I knew little about, “it was testimony entered into the court record by witnesses, who testified that a specter spirit came to them in a dream and caused harm to them.” Eileen and Jude draw their readers back to colonists in Newfoundland, who, in 1692,     wanted to stay out of Old World politics. When war was declared between France and England they feared the might of the French navy. Events are experienced through seventeen-year-old Charlotte Jaddore whose Mi’kmaq and Beothuk grandmothers taught her ‘sacred healing arts.’ Will she help her father to save their prosperous American relatives arrested after neighbours acc...
Five out of five star review for A Troubled Heart by Tricia McGill. The novel is available on amazon and other online bookstores. To use an apt cliché Finn and Esther the main characters in talented novelist Ms McGill’s novel A Troubled Heart are ‘chalk and cheese’. Homeless orphan Runaway Finn had lived with a group of boys who survived living on their wits and theft in London. Arrested for a minor crime when fifteen years Finn is transported to Tasmania. Esther’s deceased father a doctor and mother emigrated from England to Tasmania. They were devoted to each other and were a good example to Esther of what it meant to share life with another. In 1838, on the first day of Finn’s parole, when he leaves hospital after an injury Finn is penniless. Esther, alone in the world lives with a family where she is employed to teach a small girl. She tumbles down the steps. Finn helps her up. She thanks him and asks who he is. He tells her he is a homeless ex-convict. Esther believes she is ...

Yvonne Lady of Cassio by Rosemary Morris #Classic #Historical #Romance A Medieval Novel Set in Edward II’s reign

Yvonne Lady of Cassio by Rosemary Morris   #Classic #Historical #Romance   A Medieval Novel Set in Edward II’s reign   When Yvonne and Elizabeth, daughters of ruthless Simon Lovage, Earl of Cassio, are born under the same star to different mothers, no one could have foretold their lives would be irrevocably entangled. Against the background of Edward II’s turbulent reign in the thirteenth century, Yvonne, Lady of Cassio, contains imaginary and historical characters. It is said the past is a foreign country in which things were done differently. Nevertheless, although that is true of attitudes, such as those towards women and children, our ancestors were also prompted by ambition, anger, greed, jealousy, humanity, duty, loyalty, unselfishness and love. From early childhood, despite those who love her and want to protect her, Yvonne is forced to face difficult economic, personal and political circumstances, during a long, often bitter struggle. ...

Reseach Snippet. Tipu Sultan

Research snippet. Tipu Sultan employed French mercenaries. He understood the East India Company not only wantedtrade. It wanted to control the land. In 1799, Arthur Wellsley, later Duke of Wellington, defeated him. Afterward the British were surprised by how much his people, Muslim and Hindu loved him and how prosperous his kingdom was with industrious inhabitants.

The Viscount and The Orphan

Rosemary Morris’s classic historical romance by erupts in England in 1703. Gabriel, Viscount Cavanagh is bankrupt, his fortune wasted on mistresses, extravagance, and gambling. Orphaned, emotionally neglected, deprived of his inheritance and his own person by his grandfather, Adam Maynard, his only option to avoid disaster is acceptance of an arranged marriage proposed by Adam, a ruthless merchant prince. Adam summons his wealthy sixteen-year-old ward, Dorinda Davenport, from boarding school to be Gabriel’s bride. An orphan, she yearns for love. Well-educated, but naïve, she clings to her fantasy of a happy-ever-after marriage to a gentleman as handsome, and charming as her favourite fictional hero. A connoisseur of beautiful women, Gabriel conceals his distaste when he meets dumpy, sallow-skinned, socially inept Dorinda. Nevertheless, he soon appreciates her innocence, intelligence,...

Inidra and Daisy - Review - Flawless Novel

Indira and Daisy by Rosemary Morris 5 out of 5stars Review   By   N.N.Light   Two best friends from different backgrounds and beliefs celebrate the holidays with dramatic consequences. Indira and Daisy is a candid story about family, culture, religion, and friendship. The writing is pristine and without flaws. Rosemary Morris does a wonderful job showcasing both Hindu and Christian culture but through the eyes of teen best mates. Indira and Daisy will have an impact on those who read it, as it did me. Let’s start with the characters. Indira is the embodiment of a young teen Indian girl with an extended family all under one roof. Sure, she has restrictions, but she lives happily within the rules. Until she doesn’t. Daisy is your average British teen. She identifies as a Christian but doesn’t go to church. She wishes she could have a big family like Indira. Each girl is honestly written with her own voice, wants, needs, and questions on life. Because th...

Outcast Artist in Bretagne. My Five Star Review.

Unmarried mother-to-be Norah, a talented artist, fled to her cousin in France to avoid scandal in England. When the Germans invaded the country, she was trapped. Outcast in Bretagne is a story about of love that seems doomed. Star crossed Norah and Commandant August von Gottlieb create more scandal and problems than Norah could never have imagined. If their secrets were discovered they would face torture and death. Norah’s were not only about her pregnancy and August’s were connected to his increasing disillusionment with Hitler’s dictatorship.   Ms Scott-Lewis brings to life Norah and August’s emerging love, her cousin’s surly husband and loveable children, members of the local resistance party, the villagers’ suffering and their attitudes. She also shows August in his official capacity, his brutal Nazi second-in-command, arrogant soldiers who have no respect for the conquered, and his right hand man, a young officer who approves of August’s mild regime which conflicts ...

Indira and Daisy. Five Star Review.

Maggi Andersen's review of Indira and Daisy byrosemary Morris.  "Wonderful entertaining story. This well written, entertaining story, reminded me of Rodgers and Hammerstein's song in South Pacific. You've got to be taught. The young do not know to distrust those of a different skin color, until they are taught. The friendship of two young girl's is a bridge between two very different cultures bringing two families together through tragedy and a new beginning. Wonderfully well drawn characters."

Rushing the Klondike a novel by Joan Donaldson-Yarmey

I congratulate Ms Joan Donaldson Yarmey for recreating the Gold Rush in the Northern Territory and bringing it to life in her epic romantic novel Rushing the Klondike. Many of the characters she vividly portrays are actual men and women. Among them is the Jesuit Priest, Father Judge who had a mission   in Fortymile where he bult a residence, a church and a hospital. It is also worth mentioning the legend of three men who found a baby on Christmas Eve which has its place in the folklore of the Klondike. While reading the novel, I travelled with Pearl Owen a journalist, who supplements her income baking and selling sour dough bread and working in a hotel, her cousin and friends in Dawson and the area around it, including mining camps.   Dawson   was a thriving town with hotels, supply stations, restaurants, bars and a population of 3,500 who lived in cabins or tents.   When the ice on the Yukon melted in spring 1897, Pearl’s friend, Florence, arrived with ...

5* Review of False Pretences a classic Regency Novel by Rosemary Morris

I m very pleased with this new review. Five out of 5 star review by Astrid Westerling   Annabelle Allan’s greatest wish is to find out the identity of her parents. When she discovers her guardian has arranged for her to marry a man more than twenty years her senior, she runs away from boarding school in search of her family. However, to escape the unwanted marriage, she agrees to wed Major Roland Sarrat, the man who rescued her when her carriage was held up by a footpad. Little does she know he’s aware of her identity and has done so to protect her from her past. Secrets and misunderstandings abound in this delightful Regency romance and the characters are charming and well thought out. What I particularly enjoyed about this engaging, well written book is Ms. Morris’ attention to historical detail which transports the reader to another era. False Pretences is available from Amazon and other online book stores.

Fantastic blend of science fiction and romance,

After the deaths of the king and queen, Lord Khol, a mutant, usurps the throne and oppresses his human subjects who rebel. Thursday's Child #classic#historical fiction by Rosemary Morris

Thursday’s Child by Rosemary Morris a #Classic#early 19 th century novel   is Book 4 in   Heroines Born on Different Days of the Week loosely connected series.   Review   J. Pitman’s 5 out of 5 stars review.   Humour, Adventure, Heart-breaking Sadness   I really enjoyed having a new Rosemary Morris to read I've been a fan since I first discovered Rosemary's Queen Anne books - however, I think this Regency series is particularly good. Thursday's Child is the 5th book in a series - you don't have to read them in order, as each is stand alone. However, in each book you meet at least a few of the characters from the others. This one features Margaret - outspoken, unruly but very much loved by her guardian and elder brother, the Earl of Saunton. Margaret's impetuous outbursts land her in trouble early in the book, and she spends the rest of it extricating herself from a growing selection of pickles, so to speak. There is humour, adv...

Which are your favourite classic novels?

I thank those of you who shared names of desceased novelists. I made added some of their books to a list of ones I want to re-read. What are your favourite classics? Mine include, Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, Rudyard Kipling's Kim and Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbevilles. I also enjoy dipping into Jerrfrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales and re-reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Novels that endure the test of time.

About forty years after some authors left their bodies, there are some whose novels are as enjoyable today as they were when first published. Two of the novelists whose books I re-read from time to time, are Elizabeth Goudge and Georgette Heyer. Do you have favourite authors whose books you read again? Like Comment Share
