Sci/fi Romance Review of Black Jaguar

As a punishment for his affairs with women, 25-year-old Prince Kahuel, aka Black Jaguar is sent to the other end of New Earth in a galleon commanded by his brother, Basilk, on an expedition to find gold, medicinal plants, new varieties of fruit, spices, and animals to breed. Kahuel intends to prove he can be a reliable, responsible member of the Zerker royal family of Yalta. An accomplished warrior he can tolerate almost anything except for the bad weather caused by a typhoon on the voyage across the ocean. Shipwrecked on an unknown shore, unable to contact his family, he lands in a cove with his devoted black jaguar, Diablo, other survivors, and their loyal felines. Basil is dead so Kahuel must take charge. Behind him is a forest of ferns and palm tree fronds alive with animals’ calls. Gentle slopes spread up to a mountain range that peaked on the horizon. Toward the sea, ominous rock formations with strong, jagged spines advanced far into the water on both sides of the cove like black fingers of death’. Fate introduces Kahuel to Kalina, who must remain chaste because there is no eligible Royal Prince to marry her. Their cultures clash and they are in danger from the star people who protected her clan and now consider the strangers a threat to their experiment. This fast-paced science fiction romance intrigued me from the first page to the end.
