The Countess' Lucky Charm.

My 5* review of The Countess' Lucky Charm by A.M. Westerling.

Available from Amazon and online bookstores.

Instead of obeying an order to dump Simone, a dirty three-year-old in the River Thames because she is too young to be a pickpocket. Gentry Ted takes her to an orphanage. “You’ve nothing to fear. “Mrs Doughty will look after you if you do as you’re told,” the woman in charge tells her.

The novel swept me from London in 1811 to Montreal in New Calendonia, to an outpost on Stuart Lake then back to England.

The intriguing story has an unusual theme about incompatible characters. Independent-minded Simone, an expert pick-pocket, who experiences many hardships, and Lord Temple Wellington, who mixed with the wrong people, story held my attention from beginning to end. The characterisation is excellent, the dialogue is entertaining, and I enjoyed Ms Westerling’s descriptions of places.

If you enjoy historical romance with an unpredictable twist in the tale, you will enjoy this novel.
