Catherine's Passion by A.M.Westerling

Catherine’s Passion by A.M.Westerling. Ladies of Harrington Book 3   Cornwall 1815.   A.M. Westerling could not find amusing novels she wanted to read so she decided to write ones which are fun. She has succeeded with the prequel, the first two novels and, Catherine’s Passion the last one in the series.   Catherine’s Passion is an enjoyable novel. The story does not depend on the previous ones in the series.   Catherine, whose London Season was a disaster. Nevertheless, she hopes to have a husband she loves and children, while dreaming of becoming a famous pianist. When a puppy startles her horse, she falls off and is helped to get up by Julian Fitzgerald, a duke and duchess’s oldest son. Catherine and Julian don’t betray their mutual attraction to each other. The Real Valkyrie, The Hidden History of Vkiing Warrior Women

I would like to write a novel about Vikings so I've jotted facts and ideas in a file. Today I borrowed The Real Valkyrie, the Hidden History of Viking Warrior Women by Nancy Marie Brown from the library. I am considering writing a novel set in the age of Vikings. I have made notes about the era, possible plots and themes. Today I borrowed The Real Valkyrie by Nancy Marie Brown - The Hidden History of Viking Warrrior Women from the library. It is inspired by DNA tests in 2017 "to the collective shock of many scholars that a Viking warrior in a high-status grave in Birka, Sweden was actually a woman." I dipped into the book and look forward to reading more. The author weaves facts together to reinvent her life and times , showing that Viking women had more power and agency than historians have imagined. I dipped into the book and look forward to reading more.

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

What are you reading? I finished readig The Snowchild by Eowyn Ivey. Her novel is inspired by the Russian Fairy Tale 'Snegurochka,' about an old man and woman who form a little girl out of snow, and she comes alive. Arthur Ransome based his children's story "Little Daughter of the Snow' on it. Financial times. 'A story about finding love in unexpected places...full of fire and love.'

Viking - Alternative Names Northmen, Dark Heathens etc.

I have a few jumbled notes in my ideas file for a novel set in Viking Britain, An Exploration by Thomas Williams He was the project curator of The British Museum Exhibition Viking Life and Legend. It is interesting to note in the Viking Age itself "hardly anbody was called a viking; they were referred to across Europe and beyond as Danes, Dark Heathens, Dark Foreigners, Fair Foreigners, Foreign Irish, Gentiles, Northmen, Pirates, Pagans, Rus, Sycthians and Varangians, but hardly ever in Old English - as Vikings (wicings). If I write the novel I think I would refer to Vikings as Northmen.

One of my favourite childhood stories was published in Tales From Around The World about Prince Rama’s exile from his father’s capital city, Ayodhya, to a forest with his companions, his wife, Princess Sita, and his brother Prince Lakshman.   Years later I read Valmiki’s Ramayana a famous epic from India which rivals the Iliad and the Odyssey. Fascinated by it I described the three protagonists mentioned above in my novel Far Above Rubies. I am delighted with the photo my friend who travels in India sent me of the carvings above the entrance to a temple. From left to right they are Hanuman, who with his army of warriors helped Prince Rama to defeat the enemy who held Princess Sita captive, a servant, Prince Lakshman, Prince Rama, Princess Sita, a servant and Jaytayu a demi-god. I highly recommend the Ramayana one of my favourite books which I often re-read.   Far Beyond Rubies is available from Amazon and other online bookstores.   To read the first t...

Crucial Point in a Novel

As I write a historcal novel, usually, I only work on minor revisions and complete my daily target of a set number of words every day. However, on the 1st March I wrote a crucial point in the story then I decided it needed to be rewritted. Yesterday I wrestled with it trying to make sure the reader would understand the hero's motivation. Today, I rewrote it again and am satisfied with the result. However, I am three days behind with my target. To catch up I need time to write more words than usual for three days
